Many people begin to take their own joints, but the results are not always happy. In this column, I hope to enlighten more on this task to be done well for that, ultimately, your wall to be successful.

The installation of gypsum board

First and foremost, we must ensure that you have done the installation of its panels of plasterboard. To get there, I often work with 2 X 3 metal to make my divisions. This material makes us not only save space, but it remains straight and we did not select as the 2 X 3 in spruce which is often crooked. – In the manufacture of your divisions, it is possible that one of them has an opening, because you need to have a door (for example). It is in this situation I propose to insert a 2 X 3 spruce up straight inside your post (stud) metal. This will have the effect of frame your 2 X 3 wood and also give you the advantage of a material in which screw when installing your door. Little thing going: Make sure you screw the 2 X 3 wood with the metal!

* Use to install, sheets 4 by 8 feet that you will, in the height direction and you will have next to each other.

* If you have a ceiling, so that the joints are not found next to each other, using, for the second row, a panel of 4 by 4 and then resume with the third row of panels by 4 8. This will give you a bit the same distribution as the bricks on a brick wall. Your joints will be stronger.

* Again, when you reach a door, avoid vertical joints that reaches the top of your door or the location of the door handle. Otherwise, the seal may crack.

* Cut your panels with a utility knife and a bracket to plasterboard. To perform a clean cut, make an incision the width of the panel and fold the sheet to make it sell. Then, cut the back of your sheet to complete your cut. – Then screw your panels with plasterboard screws to ensure that the leaves are well hung. There must be the least possible play between the panels. You will need to screw around 16 inches. Warning: when you screw them, you should not smash your panels of paper, otherwise it will offer less support. If you Bring an adapter for plasterboard that you put at the end of your drill, this task will be much easier. Another tip: when you screw the cap, I suggest you put two screws to 16 inch.

The distance between two screws is about 1 ½”. This way you will maximize the quality of your installation leaves your ceiling. Preparation of joints to the outer corners of your room, that is to say, for the angles of a closet, for example, the openings without framing or to a ceiling beam, I always ask the corners to strengthen your metal corners of walls and beams (columns). These metal wedges are available in the same department that the Tape and company.- Using a level, position the metal corner and make sure it is straight (level). Squeeze pushing. The metal corner should not show more than 1/8 from the wall, otherwise, you will bump the final result. To verify this measure, I use my trowel 6” I press my wall and on the corner of my metal. Once everything is properly adjusted, draw a thin line on each piece of metal.
