Whether it is a special occasion, a celebration or just a reason to get together on a balmy summer’s evening, our gardens are a valuable resource for entertainment. People used to keep their backyards prim and proper so that they could display their latest blooms. Nowadays people think of the space as an extension to the home; an extra room where they can relax and enjoy themselves.

If you are seeking inspiration for a welcoming space you can enjoy with your friends and family, you have come to the right place. Here are my top garden design tips for evening entertainment.

The Patio

There is a choice of materials to use for a patio. Whatever you decide upon, make it as big as you can so that people will not feel crowded when you host a social gathering.

Decking is my favourite material to use for a seating area. It doesn’t matter if the ground is uneven or sloping because the framework of the deck rests on vertical pillars concreted into the ground. I advise you to raise it to the same level as the floors in your house so that there isn’t an obvious barrier between the two when the back doors are open. The lack of a psychological barrier will encourage you to step outside more often than you do now.

Hard landscaping is acceptable too, especially when the area for the patio is away from the house. That is sometimes necessary to make the most of the sunshine as the evenings draw in. Unless your house faces in the right direction, locating the patio next to it will be a mistake.

Add Height

A Softwoods gazebo, or one from any other manufacturer, adds an extra dimension to the garden. They provide a space where you can sit in the shade and relax. They are also a fantastic place to which you can retire when there is a sudden rain shower. Locate a gazebo near to your seating area for just such an occasion. If you install lights in there, the party can carry on until the early hours. If you don’t have understanding neighbours, perhaps you should invite them along.

Include a bar in your design. They are not a usual feature of gardens, but they are essential for evening entertainment. You will not have to keep going into the house every time somebody needs a fresh drink. Make it a permanent structure, maybe you could locate it in the gazebo, and supply it with power for lights and refrigeration. This feature is a marvelous addition to your garden decor; it is attractive and functional.

Jacuzzis are all the rage these days, and you can buy one for under five thousand pounds. Models to seat many people will be extremely expensive, but it may be worth it because it is a brilliant way to finish the party.

You must provide adequate illumination for your outdoor space too. Don’t approach the subject in a half-hearted manner; employ an electrician to do a proper job. You need bright lights for when you are working and soft lighting for when the party is in full swing.

I hope you take a few of my ideas and use them in your garden. You can create a magical place where people will feel welcome and happy. That is all we can hope for at the end of the day; don’t you agree?
