The concrete walls, though it seems are very sensitive in regards to the humidity are just in snug contact with the earth, and even a minor mistake in the initial construction can make the entire house possibly damaged. In any case, if you have a lot of patience with this guide I will explain step by step how to solve this problem by yourself and how to waterproof your basement walls. Put your hand on the toolbox and good luck.

To waterproof the walls we’ll we need to have a little awareness of why they get ruined over time. The various types of waterproofing can attribute to several different factors. The most important are: continuous contact with the bottom of a most water infiltrated area, one way to fix this problem is with a water powered sump pump.  Other issues include: water with high hydrostatic pressure, aggressive chemicals and different types of soil (gravel, rock etc.) So to protect the area concerted we must cover it with a layer of bitumen (time) at least 3 to 4 centimeters and be careful that this does not get into any holes.

For a sufficiently drained soil area, just put the sheets on proof courses that will work to waterproof and protect the membrane with polyester reinforcement. This will make the wall insulated from any external agent that may seep into the wall. For this type of soil, it would also suffice to protect only the vertical walls without having to perform another job, regarding underground environments.

If instead the ground is irregular, and there are lots of bumps (thus a concentration of moisture is greater) it is best to level it before waterproofing the walls (applying the sheets, proof courses and the self-adhesive membranes) to further keep the wall separated from the surrounding lands. You can also build a rigid structure on panels that will create an air chamber that will promote the conservation of the walls.

If you do not have a lot of practice, and the arrangement of the house may create some problems, you can use prefabricated systems that are on the market and not priced to high. Also remember to take care of these types of structures, as the slightest penetration of water or chemicals may actually cause a big problem in your home.  Having said that, your walls are not ready to test everything!
